More than 350 medical publications professionals gathered at the International Society for Medical Publications Professionals (ISMPP) European meeting in January 2020. ISMPP members discussed the role of medical publications in increasing the transparency and accessibility of science under the meeting’s central theme “Precision Communication: Achieving Clarity, Reach and Value”. This year’s topics covered plain language summaries (PLS), data visualisation and future technologies in medical publications.
CMC Connect’s Caroline Shepherd presented a poster on increasing the reach of plain language summaries:
CMC Connect presented original research in an adaptation of the #BetterPoster format: An original poster layout that breaks through the busy presentation space with a concise key message while offering the corresponding data online. CMC Connect’s #BetterPoster using the official #ISMPPEU20 tag became one of the top tweets of the meeting.
CMC Connect’s Head of Scientific Services, Jason Gardner, participated in a panel discussion providing the agency perspective on definition, development and dissemination of PLS. CMC Connect is an early adopter of this publication development, which adds value to readers by making science clearer and more ‘snackable’.
Jason commented “This is an exciting time in medical publications. PLS, along with digital enhancements, can extend the reach and increase the impact of medical research. Ultimately, this could result in improving treatment outcomes for patients.”
CMC Connect is leading the way in optimising data communication through enhanced formats and more precise data visualisation, bespoke educational material and value-added content.
